400,000 people commit suicide in the US every year
God has shared everything with us in many ways.
The prevalent humanistic (in other words the pursuit of me) approach is all about the moment. Me me me.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
Take the above verses and read them using the opposite of each word described to see us in Christ. For example: obedient to parents, grateful, holy, loving, reconcilable, and so forth.
Take heed to what God says
8Now go, write it on a tablet before them And inscribe it on a scroll, That it may serve in the time to come As a witness forever. 9For this is a rebellious people, false sons, Sons who refuse to listen To the instruction of the LORD; 10Who say to the seers, “You must not see visions”; And to the prophets, “You must not prophesy to us what is right, Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions. 11“Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, Let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”
Do not walk in futility
17So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20But you did not learn Christ in this way,
1 Peter 4:17-18
17For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?
The way to the narrow road is the Word
Obeying the Word of God never leads to destruction.
- The path to truly feeling good about life is not an easy path.
- The path is not natural to me.
1“Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. 2“He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him. 3“So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
1The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. 2All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the LORD weighs the motives. 3Commit your works to the LORD And your plans will be established. 4The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil. 5Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished. 6By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for, And by the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil. 7When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. 8Better is a little with righteousness Than great income with injustice. 9The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.
- The path is not instant. Are you here because you love God?
- The path will not be accepted by everyone and is often misunderstood.
The city of Foolville is easy to find. Living there is very easy and is very difficult to leave.
What does pleased mean to the Lord?
Trust Him when He wounds. His wounds are faithful.
